Breast-Feeding Support Services
The Breastfeeding Support Services at
OSF St. Joseph Medical Center help you adjust to feeding your baby
while you're in the hospital, and help is available to answer
questions or concerns while you're breastfeeding at home. We help
mothers and families initiate and maintain breastfeeding, providing
the skills, confidence and support you need for a successful
experience.
When
you are in the hospital
- Breastfeeding basics are
taught to each new mother by her primary care nurse or lactation
consultant.
- Certified Lactation Consultant,
Sarah Musselman, RN, IBCLC, visits breastfeeding mothers every day
during their hospital stay to answer questions and assess equipment
and supply needs. She is also available for ongoing consultation on
more difficult issues.
- Information about additional
breastfeeding resources within our community is available through
hospital staff and the lactation consultant.
- Referrals to other healthcare
providers, if needed for specialized circumstances, are also
available.
After you go home
- Phone consultations with the
lactation consultant are available Monday through Friday, 8am to
4:30pm for problems or questions.
- Private consultations at OSF St.
Joseph Medical Center or the Center for Healthy Lifestyles by
calling 309-665-4704.
